The Limes College offers a half termly respite programme for young people in Key Stage 3 who are at risk of being permanently excluded from their mainstream schools. The programme consists of a highly focused and structured curriculum aimed at helping these particular students to successfully return to their schools. Our aim is to encourage young people to understand, accept and take responsibility for their behaviour and we will work with each student in a targeted and personalised way. Each child is given as much appropriate help and support as possible enabling them to confront their issues and learn to move forward.
We have 4 days of classroom based lessons, incorporating English, Maths and Science, alongside PSHE, Cookery, RE, Humanities, Domestic Violence & Relationships, Beauty Therapy, ICT, ART and Navigate. Outdoor Education is the focus for Friday’s and students’ are offered the opportunity to try a wide variety of sports including rock climbing, sailing, swimming, kayaking and horse riding.
During each respite programme, a residential trip is offered which we strongly recommend that students’ attend. The event, which is usually 3 days and two nights is carefully designed to challenge and motivate our Young People. We have found this to be a very important and integral part of what we do here at The Limes College for our respite groups.
Our goal is to help these students rejoin their mainstream school and complete their education there. We have a very good success rate of our Key Stage 3 respite students then returning to their schools and staying there to go on to achieve their full potential.
